THE PROJECT IS PART OF A BUSINESS PROPOSAL FOR THE OPEN TENDER FOR ONE OF THE HONG KONG’S FUTURE PLANNING VISION FOR REVITALISING THE OLD LANDFILL SITES. THE PROJECT SCHEME WAS DONE FOR AN NGO TO CREATE AN OUTDOOR/ INDOOR RETREAT FOR MEDIATION, SPIRITUAL PURPOSES AND RELAXATION.

The project site is located in east kowloon area call lam tin, ma yau tong. The history of the landfill site has involved filling up open cutted sides of mountains and hills. This particular site located next to the lam tin park which is south of the lam tin village and some distance up from the actual sea level. The master plan design concept is about creating the sum of a whole through large and small fragments of the built form to enclose and semi enclose small and large courtyards. The design of the roof is to create a dynamic movement imagined by the wind

The street frontage is also covered by a thick linage of existing trees and foliage vegetation, therefore only the actual entrances of the site gives only glimpse of the building. The second issue is the vehicular ramp for trucks to access the loading and unloading bay on the second level of the project. The vehicular ramp becomes an visual obstacle to the street frontage of the main building facade. The design approach is to create an multi-layered edge to maximize the visual impact on the street frontage.

There are only two places where the street frontage could be strengthened visually. The first place is the actual gatehouse entrances into the site. The second is the corner edges of the main building facade. The design proposed to emphasis the effect on these two areas.

The concept for the gatehouse was adopted from one of the earlier proposed schemes. The concept is to express the mission & vision that was once upon bestow upon the CITIC Group. As one of the first capitalist company in mainland China, the CITIC Group assisted China in the reforming of the economy. The notion of opening from the closed door policy and trading with the outside world again has allowed China to climb up to become a Global leader and superpower once again.
